JAMAICA TOKEN MORANT BAY

I.J. Mordecai & Co, cupro-nickel, Three-Halfpence, ca. 1880, name around value: I. J. M & Co. 1R.  DRY GOODS HARDWARE HARDWARE  9.45mm, 2.42g  (Lyall 156; Prid. 146).


A few small stains, otherwise GVF, Rare.


An example of this, though only AVF and tarnished, in a recent DNW sale sold for £360 (before premium = ca £445 after premium)


Ivanhoe J Mordecai founded the company on Main Street, Morant Bay about 1880.  The business closed when Mordecai retired in 1915.  These tokens were withdrawn in 1883.  Ex Dr D J Rogers who had family connections in Jamaica.
