Charles (Jenkinson), 1st Earl of Liverpool, was instrumental in 1773 for bringing about the phased withdrawal of light-weight guineas and their subsequent recoinage. His son, Robert Banks Jenkinson, 2nd Lord Hawkesbury, was Master of the Royal Mint, 1799-1801 and Prime Minister 1812-27.
