Andre M Andreades, fondateur de la science des finances en Grece.

Athanase J Sbarounis, with a preface by K Varvaressos. Published in 1936 by Librairie du Recueil Sirey, Paris.  viii + 294 pages including a frontespiece b&w portrait of Andreades and a bibliography of his works. French text.  HB (red cloth with gilt-titled spine), professionally bound for Prof Grierson, and from his library with his ex libris.  Two pages of the prelims (but not the endpapers) very slightly foxed, otherwise a very good bright, clean copy.  A high quality example, nicely bound.

A highly academic work about André M.Andréadès, 'fondateur de la science des finances en Grèce'.  Certainly there are more footnotes than text. He tells the story of Greek economcs from ancient times, through the Byzantine period to more recent times. The words 'Greek finances' are almost an insult these days, like the warning 'beware Greeks bearing gifts'.  Maybe the economists of the EU should have read this book.

Professor K. Varvaressos was a Member de Athenian Academy, Governor of the Bank of Greece, former Greek Minister of Finance, etc.
