Æ Penny token, 1811. Diameter 36mm.  ROSE COPPER COMPANY around TOKEN 1811 in centre.  R.  BIRMINGHAM AND SWANSEA around ONE PENNY in circle in centre.  W 242. RR.  Dark toned.  Knocked in centre on both sides, otherwise strong GF. Ex P Withers reference collection.

The Rose Copper Company, which supplied Boulton with much of the copper for his coinage contracts, had a smelting works on the western side of the River Tawe between Hafod and Forest, near Abertawe (Swansea).  Its business was done from Cherry Street, in Birmingham.
