R Reece. 1987 HB 144pp + 8 plates. Maps and line drawing illustr. in the text.
The purpose of this book is to enable the reader interested in the romans and archaeology to understand the place of coinage in roman Britain.
The author examines hoards, and single finds and how they are studied. He looks at how coins were used in the empire at large and in Britain in particular, because here, the average man and woman in the field, or the market place probably relied as much on barter as anything else. Finally he tells of the differences between Britain and the rest of the empire.
All numbers, statistical analysis, etc. have been banished to a single short Appendix, so the book is clean and clear.
Out of print.
Nice clean secondhand.
