The West Wheal Fortune Mine was at Ludgvan. West Wheal mine produced rich ore and in 1725 and was one of the three greatest in Cornwall, turning a profit even in the depression of 1807. The harbour at St Michael's Mount was the most important in west Cornwall, exporting copper, tin and salted fish.
