Encased farthing. Poole's Synod Hall, Edinburgh.

Aluminium. Diam. 37.9mm. GOOD LUCK FROM “POOLE’S” SYNOD HALL -·- around. R.  KEEP ME AND YOU WILL NEVER BE BROKE on an inverted horseshoe, a tiny J.R.G below (J R Gaunt) The farthing dated 1931.
The building was opened in 1875 as a theatre, built by architects J Murray Bell and F T Pilkington.  In 1877 the United Presbyterian Church bought and converted the building to become their new Synod Hall.  Poole's Diorama shows began around 1906. The building was converted into a full-time cinema in the 1920s and became the first cinema in Edinburgh to show ‘talkies’. This token was issued in the 1930s.
