Alan E Kelly. Published by Mannin Collections Ltd., Peel, Isle of Man. 1st (only) edition, 2003. HB (stoutly bound in heavy blue cloth with gilt-lettered spine and gilt-blocked red leather label on the front cover). 69 pages, with some in-text colour illustrations of the relevant coins referred to in the documents. 144 x 207mm. The Manx National Heritage Library holds a number of important documents relating to the currency of the Isle of Man, especially in respect of the coinage. Very few of these documents have been published and it was felt that this significant information should be made available to collectors of the Manx series.
The majority of the material is taken from The Dukes of Atholl Papers, but The Quayle, Bridge House, Castletown, Papers also contain letters and documents that give an insight into the background of the Manx currency for the period 1709 to 1816. The remaining items have been taken from the Manx court records, Libri Scaccarii (Exchequer books), 1723-1729. Full references are given in the text and the documents are arranged in chronological order. No. 14 of a limited edition of 50 proof copies. Attractively bound and distributed to friends of the author and publisher. Almost as new. A scarce book and a rare chance to acquire a copy.
