IMITATION DOUBLE SOVEREIGN, 1823.

Gilt brass 27.7mm (not including suspension loop)  GEORGIUS IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F: D: his bare head left.  R.  GILT  above St George riding right, trampling dragon; 1823 in exergue.  Cf Rogers 1461.  Gilt wearing slightly, small edge knock, otherwise GVF*.
*US customers please note that this is strict British grading.

The Victorian sovereign and the George III 'spade' guinea were extensively imitated; the George IV two pound piece, however, is very much scarcer.  These were produced with an integral mount, which was sometimes removed with the intention of fraudulent usage, however, to prevent that this piece says GILT on the reverse !

NB  All of the photographs of coins (or books) offered on our website are unretouched images of the actual coin (or book) offered for sale.  We endeavour to grade our coins and describe our books strictly and to high standards to ensure your satisfaction.
