The tola is a traditional Ancient Indian and South Asian unit of mass, now standardised as 180 grains (11.6638038 grams). It was the base unit of mass in the British Indian system of weights and measures introduced in 1833.  The tola is the preferred unit of measurement for gold and silver items and used extensively in traditional markets for buying and selling jewellery etc.
