These tickets were given to purchasers of shares in a Lottery drawn in 1737. The lottery was encouraged by Queen Caroline and 30,000 medals were struck. The prize was a giant silver wine cistern weighing 255 Kg. Its maker, Henry Jernegan, a gold and silversmith of Russell Street, Covent Garden, had failed to sell it. Funds from the sale of the tickets went towards the rebuilding of Westminster Bridge.
