Pigot & Co’s Directory for 1826 says:- LAMBERHURST is a village pleasantly situated on the direct road from London to Hastings, distant from metropolis 38 miles and Goudhurst four. A road has been recently laid from hence to Tonbridge Wells, tending much to increase the consequence and thoroughfare of the place. This village is part in Kent and part in Sussex. The church is a respectable old ediface seated on the Kent side of the village. The part of Lamberhurst which is in Kent, contains about 540 inhabitants, and the whole parish 1325.
