Lorraine is a district of France on the German border. Badonviller is equidistant from Nancy and Strasbourg and ca 400km east of Paris. This type was issued in Lorraine 1626-31 in the name of Francis II who abdicated in favour of Charles IV soon after attaining the throne. Lorraine in the early seventeenth century was hotly contested between France and Germany, the duke was a French client.
