Pierre Bastien (born Lille 1912 died 2010), was a French surgeon and numismatist who practiced medicine in Dunkerque until his retirement in 1977, when he joined his children in the USA.
He became fascinated by Roman imperial numismatics from 1955 onwards and wrote a study on the coinage of the Roman emperor Magnentius. He numerous papers and works on the Roman imperial coinage, including an eight volume study of the mint of Lyon. He continued his work until 1995, when blindness prevented him from continuing.
From 1965 to 1967, he was president of the French Numismatic Society. From 1986 he was made an honorary member of the International Numismatic Commission.
