John D Lusk, with a foreword by Peter Preston-Morely. Published by Digital Dynamics, Michigan, USA. 1st (only) edition, 2014. HB xviii + 380 pages, lavishly illustrated throughout in colour, including the edges of the tokens. 210 x 278mm. ISBN 9780991306404. New.
This covers much the same ground as Commercial Coins, 1787-1804 by R Bell, but is vastly superior, the illustrations particularly so, It covers the 18th-century tokens of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, well researched. It is designed so as to be both didactic and interesting, wih novel features such as coloured tab indexing, and edge photography. Features include, brilliant, detailed reseach: for example, for W Draper, of Maldon in Essex (D&H 35) - who as well as being a watchmaker, silversmith and auctioneer, and iron monger was also a clock maker, and the book includes photographs of one of his clocks. I could go on at length about the 'extras', such as the varieties additional to DH that are illustrated, and the portraits of the issuers.
A heavy book printed on gloss art paper, that will attract extra postage.
