P Grierson. Published by Oxford University Press PB 1975. First American edition. viii + 211 pages. Illustrated throughout in text with some 67 b&w illustrations and tables. 130 x 204mm. An excellent reasonably high level introduction to the subject for university students. Describes coins and all the other coin-like objects that turn up including medals, jetons, coin-weights, tokens, tickets, passes, contorniates, etc. There is a glossary of numismatic terms, a section of forgeries and counterfeits and much else besides. This is a book that all collectors should read ! A good clean example, and from the library of Philip Grierson, with his ex-libris.
