This ticket belongs to the post-1932 period when the impresario Charles Clore took over the theatre and began putting on extravagant revues, rather risqué for the time, featuring lavish costumes, beautiful dancers, singers, magicians, acrobats, and elaborate sets. These ‘Folies’ shows, which ran continuously from 2pm to midnight, 4 times a day, were an enormous success and eventually provided the funds necessary to build a new theatre to replace the ageing 1884 building.
