This volume presents details of thirty-eight coin hoards of the Roman period found in Britain, six of which are addenda to finds already published in this series. Hoards such as these constitute unique primary evidence for the history of the Roman occupation of Britain and the finds published here span the whole period from the invasion in AD 43 to the abandonment of the province soon after AD 400. The hoards also contain several new and unpublished coins, many of which are illustrated in the plates that accompany the text. Descriptions and drawings are also published of several of the pots in which the coins were found.

Four hoards (Membury, Woodham Mortimer, Sutton and Norton Subcourse) date to the very earliest years of the Roman occupation, and there are also nine other hoards of silver denarii of the second and early third centuries AD, including two (Hastings and Much Hadham) that also have bronze coins. These are followed by ten hoards of radiates of the third century AD, including the large finds from Chalfont St Peter (6,682 coins found in no fewer than four pots) and Chalgrove (4,145 coins) and an example of a 'legitimist' hoard of the period of the British Empire of Carausius and Allectus (Lacock). The remaining fourteen hoards all date to the fourth and early fifth centuries AD; amongst these are three important finds that include coins of Magnentius (Coleshill, Wokingham and Shipham) and one of the largest finds of bronze coins of the House of Valentinian to be published from this country (Wrington). Lastly, there is a find of eight gold coins from Boscombe Down, dating to the very last years of the Roman occupation.  Out of print.
