A serious study of Roman coinage, including its production, coin hoards in Roman Britain, the study of site finds, supply and circulation.
The first two chapters provide a resume of how the coinage of the centralised Roman state changed and developed. Roman coins found in Britain have either been deposited as hoards or as single chance finds in excavations. These two classes are very different and are examined separately. The author then looks at how coins were used in Roman Britain, and finally explains the differences between island Britain and the rest of the Roman Empire. A quantitative as well as qualitative analysis follows with the heavy numerical stuff being put into a short appendix.
