Penny token, undated.  GENUINE BRITISH COPPER view of works, SEDBURY IRON WORKS in ex.  R. ONE PENNY TOKEN within wreath.  W.970.  Struck over W.1490, Field Marshall Wellington penny.  Many knocks and nicks, otherwise Fine.  Rare.

An interesting industrial scene.
This attractive token was most likely struck as a speculative piece for sale to anyone who would use it. There was certainly not an iron works at Sedbury, Gloucs. at this time.
The same reverse die was used for bogus pieces for Burton, Sheffield and several ‘non-local pieces’. 

This is graded to strict British and European standards.
