Æ 1/2 and 1 cent, Cu.-Ni. 5, 10 and 20 cents and 1 leone, 1964. All have obv. UNITY · FREEDOM · JUSTICE · SIR MILTON MARGAI His head right. Reverses depict: two bongo fish, oil palm leaves, a cottonwood tree, a circle of grains of rice (not cocoa beans as stated by KM !), a lion, the arms of Sierra Leone with lion supporters. Designs by Michael Rizzello. KM 16-21. Produced by the Royal Mint, London. In case of issue. Due to a chemical reaction of the coins with the material of the case, the 1/2 and 1 cent coins are unevenly toned, so much so in the case of the 1 cent that I'd describe it as stained. The 1 leone is also a little affected on the reverse. Hence the price. Do not press the 20 cent piece into its recess - the hole is too small for it, and it will become almost impossible to remove. The coins are otherwise "uncirculated".
