Solomon Carvalho is one of the great Jewish figures in American history, the descendant of a Sephardic Jewish family, who accompanied Colonel John Fremont on his fifth expedition of discovery across the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. He was the expedition photographer / daguerrotypist, and artist. When things took a disastrous turn Carvalho defied the odds and survived despite the desperate situation.
