Silver, 25.3mm, 4.33 gram. FROME SELWOOD  TOKEN FOR 12 PENCE Crowned bust facing.  R. A ONE POUND NOTE GIVEN FOR 20 TOKENS 1811 around, on the arms of a cross in centre, AT MESSRS WILLOUGHBYS  MRS SINKINS  H RYALL  W. SPARKS  W. GERARD  GRIFFITH & GOUCH  Dalton 71.  Minor scratches, otherwise EF,  multi-coloured natural toning.

                                            

As well as being grocers, C & R Willoughby were wine and spirit merchants, as were Griffith and Gough, and William Gerard; William Sparks was also a grocer. Henry Ryall was a tallow chandler among several other occupations. Jane Sinkins, widowed in 1811, was a draper who continued in business for several decades after the token was issued and in 1822 had two premises. Her daughter, Sarah was a milliner and habit maker nearby.
