Until his unfortunate demise two years ago, I had known the author for almost half a century.  A former tax inspector turned coin dealer and then numismatist, for many years we printed his lists. In order to save on production costs he and his wife, Stella, and sometimes one or other of his daughters would arrive to help with the collating, stapling and trimming, packing the finished lists into envelopes and applying the appropriate postage stamps.  We were in frequent telephone contact throughout those years.

At first glance this book may seem to be expensive and of little use.  Ok, so my copy cost me nothing, apart from having it bound in leather.  However, I would not be without a copy in my library as it is one of my most frequently-used books.  John was a careful and accurate researcher in those pre-Google times.  The Inn Token Tracer, and the Index to Hawkins' Dictionary are alone worth the price - the rest is a bonus.
