R N P Hawkins (quoting C P C Parish in the TCSB) says that around 1850, Gregory Browne obtained a concession from the Royal Artillery to operate canteens at their barracks and the RA camp on Woolwich Common. Parish says that he had noted Nos 1, 17 and 41, as well as the MG plain example. Mitchiner records nos. 8 and 37.
