EF or better, but was lacquered for preservation back in the 19th century, possibly by the manufacturer. Of the highest rarity.

Ex David Rogers collection.  It was found during redevelopment of a building in the jewellery quarter of Birmingham, from the same location as dies for a Scottish medal and a Fire Brigade medal for Queensborough, c.1910.

Merthyr Tydfil Gas Works
NOTICE
The Merthyr Tydfil Gas-Light Company beg to inform the Consumers of Gas, that, in consequence of the Enlargement of one of the Gas holders, the suppl of Gas during such alterations will, for the ensuing four or five Saturday nights, be somewhat less abundant than hitherto. The Company hope the Consumers will bear with any inconvenience that may arise in consequence, and they would assure them that every means will be adopted to lessen such disaccommodation, and furnish such supply as circumstances may permit.
When these alterations shall have been completed, and in conjunction with other extensive improvements and enlargements recently effected, the Company will have the best facilities for the manufacture of an abundant quantity of the purest Gas. Applications for a supply to Private Residences will then receive the prompt attention of the Manager, who will readily furnish such information as to its comparative Cheapness, Cleanliness, and Safety, as may convince intending Consumers of its advantages over all artificial lights.  By Order,  J.Lees Cocker, Manager.
