Aelfnoth as a moneyer is recorded for Chester, Exeter, Huntingdon, Ilchester, Lewes, Lincoln, London, Salisbury, Southwark, Winchcombe, of the reigns of Aethelred II, Cnut, Hardecnut, Harold I, Edward the Confessor, but of William I only a Canopy type of Lincoln is recorded. Two other entries in the SCBI index stating William I are errors for William II, again of Lincoln.
Chances are that this coin is of Lincoln, especially as Dr Rogers bought many coins from Lincolnshire detectorists.
Ex David Rogers collection.
This is graded to strict British and European standards.
