This book tells the story of the official piercing of full-weight hammered coins to allow them to carry on in circulation at the time of the great recoinage of 1696, until sufficient new coin had been minted. It also includes a full reproduction of a booklet issued at the time, 'A letter concerning the Currency of Clipt Money', by R.J.
