The standard of manufacture of these pieces leaves something to be desired. The edge seems to have been applied after the coins were struck, giving the appearance of edge nicks in places.

Banda was the first President of Malawi from 1966 until his defeat in the 1994 Presidential Election by Bakili Maluzi.
