Farm token Tydd St Giles, Cambs.

Hickman. Picker's token. 1 1/2d Zink bracteate. Oval 39.3 x 23.8mm  Scarce.  GF, or better for the issue.

The Fruit Grower Directory & Handbook 1925 lists Hickman &  Co., Fruit growers of Tydd St. Giles.  They also had farms at Leverington, Wisbech, and Hall Marsh Farm, Long Sutton, Lincolnshire.
In 1938, Harry Hickman, probably of the same family, was appointed one of the Land Tax Commissioners for the Isle of Ely area.  The surname is of some antiquity in this area.

Tydd St. Giles, the northernmost parish in Cambridgeshire, is a village situated 6 miles north of Wisbech. It was founded in the late 1000s.  The Shire Drain divides it on the north and west from the sister parish of Tydd St. Mary in Lincolnshire. Although this stream has shrunk to a shadow of its former self but is nevertheless an important boundary, separating, as it has done, two counties, two dioceses, and in all probability two Anglo-Saxon kingdoms.
It has an average altitude of 0 metres above sea level.
