This work was intended to complement Cohen's catalogue of Roman coins, and until some time after 1900 was the standard reference work on the series. It is still needed as an historical reference.

Justin Sabatier (1792-1870).
In Paris, Sabatier published many numismatic articles, but his greatest contribution is his two-volume work, published by Rollin et Feuardent, Paris in 1862. It remains one of the fundamental studies of Byzantine coins.
